FAQ

  • What brands of Oil Pastels do you recommend?

I recommend Sennelier. It has the most pigment, great color fastness, and easy to blend. I also use Mungyo Oil Pastels as a supplement to add in unique colors not available through Sennelier. They do not have a guaranteed color fastness and some colors don’t blend well, so I don’t recommend using for them on the entire piece.

  • Should my piece look like yours?

I typically teach workshops as a guide rather than to create a copy. I want to show you the skills, while allowing you to create your own unique meaningful pieces. However, you are free to copy this piece before creating one of your own if you feel that will help you develop the skills you need.

  • Do I have to seal the piece? What about displaying?

I do not always seal my pieces. If you choose to frame them, you have to be careful to let them breath. Oil based mediums need to breath. I made some pieces that I didn’t seal and put in shadow boxes and they have done well.

  • Do I have to make my piece on metal?

If you are using Sennelier, you can create on metal, glass, wood, and paper.
