FAQ

  • What brands of Paint do you recommend?

For Prepping the wood I like to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I prefer Golden paints, however, you can use any kind that you have. With color mediums, the better quality of paint the more pigment is in it. I use Liquid Gold for the gold accents t is in it.

  • Should my painting look like yours?

Your painting will not look exactly like mine. The beauty of intuitive painting is that every piece is unique and one of a kind. The prompts I use are to help you get going. The more you play and experiment and make it your own the better.

  • Why do you seal the piece with wax?

I like to seal my retablos with wax because it leaves a soft tactile finish, and it gives it a very old vintage feeling

  • Does it matter what kind of wood I use?

You can use any kind of wood panel you find, as long as it has a smooth sanded finish. Retablos were traditionally made from found or blessed wood. This gave the piece more meaning. You can however, use new wood, if you prefer.

  • Does it have to be a religious image?

No. I am creating a religious image on mine, however, you can paint anything you want in this style. For me, it is more about telling visual a story than a religious work.
